The Natural History Museum is a participant in a Dublin Core (DC) Metadata
Testbed Project being coordinated by CIMI - the US-based Consortium for the
Computer-based Interchange of Museum Information. The Project is basically
an opportunity for all "those charged with responsibility for making museum
object collections available for resource discovery and retrieval to
explore the potential of the DC metadata scheme to describe heterogeneous
collections."
The next Meeting of the Project Team will be held at the Museum next week:
14-17 October. Those directly involved with the Project known to be
attending so far are:
Erin Stewart (Project Manager, CIMI)
John Perkins (Director, CIMI)
Neil Thomson (NHM, London)
Paul Miller (AHDS)
Jay Hoffman (MD of Gallery Systems, New York)
Tom Duncan (Director, Museum Informatics Project, UCB)
Gordon McKenna (MDA)
Per Enggard Pedersen (National Museum of Denmark)
Thornton Staples (National Museum of American Art, Washington DC)
Delegate from Willoughby (Supplier of MultiMimsy system)
Alice Grant (Observer from NMSI)
*** We will be holding a small DRINKS RECEPTION for the Project Team on the
Thursday evening next [15 October] to which we are inviting also a select
group of people who we know are involved with or interested in Dublin Core.
You are a member of this `select group'! (Of course, anyone who has an
interest in Dublin Core and is free that evening can come along: we are
just trying to keep the numbers manageable (which we no doubt will have
done anyway by leaving this invite so late!) So pass this invite on to
others you feel might like to come along.)
*** Please let me know by NEXT WEDNESDAY if you are able to join us ***
We aim to starting drinking at around 6 pm; but if you arrive between 4.30
pm and 5.30 pm you can have also a "free" tour of our new Earth Galleries!
After the drinks I suspect that a number of us will go off for a meal ...
Sorry about the very short notice of this.
Best regards.
Ray
