[Ref-Links] Link.Openly System

I'm pleased to announce several bits of news regarding Openly's reference
linking software and services.

1. New name. We've decided that it would be best to make a distinction
between our software/services and the S-Link-S specifications, which can be
used freely by anyone. So our software and services based on the S-Link-S
specifications now use the "Link.Openly" name.

2. New components. Along with new, more capable versions of Link.Openly
Calculator and Link.Openly Editor, we have released to developers a new
component, Link.Openly XML Linker. This module incorporates Calculator,
accepts citation data in XML form, retrieves and parses S-Link-S Metadata,
and formats links in three XML formats. There's also a TCP/IP linking
application to make it easier to incorporate Link.Openly into PERL and
other non-Java systems.

3. New people. Albert Simmonds has joined us as Vice President. Please send
him e-mail at mailto:albert@openly.com if your organization is interested
in participating in the official launch of Link.Openly. Filip Babalievsky,
who wrote the book on electronic publishing in Bulgarian, has joined our
development staff.

4. New list. To facilitate support for S-Link-S and Link.Openly, we've
started a moderated e-mail list at egroups.com. To get the earliest
announcements, ask questions, discuss problems, etc, send mail to
mailto:S-Link-S-subscribe@egroups.com
